Hedgerow Hollow
Hedgerow Hollow is plain and kind in the way a good walk is. There is no respin, no tumble and nothing to track, only twenty lines of blackberries, roses and a hedgehog carrying a lantern, which Pip insists is a cousin. The reel weights are even-handed, so wins arrive at a steady trot. The Golden Acorn covers for anything bar the Hedge Door. Find three doors and you are let in for ten doubled free spins, or fifteen with four doors and twenty-five with five.
Anyone who likes their reels uncomplicated. There is no side mechanic to learn, which makes it a good way to see how lines and scatters work.

Kingfisher Falls
Water never stands still at Kingfisher Falls, and neither do the reels. Every line win is swept away, the symbols above slide down and new ones pour in from the top, so one good spin can become a chain. The multiplier steps up with each link in that chain until it reaches five times. The twenty-line pay table is tilted towards the trout and the kingfisher, so expect dry spells. Three Turquoise Feathers start ten free spins in which wins are doubled and the tumble climbs on top.
Players who enjoy a chain reaction and do not mind the water running quiet for a while between them.

Thistle & Thorn
Thistle & Thorn sits in the middle of the hall, neither feather-light nor flinty. The weights give the standing stone and the red stag a fair share of the reels, so wins come at an honest middle pace and occasionally with some heft behind them. Highland Hold is stubborn in a useful way: a wild that arrives on an empty spin digs in while the other positions are drawn again. The Crystal Chanter is the scatter. Three of them open ten doubled free spins; four open fourteen, five open twenty-two.
A middle-of-the-road session: more lift than the gentle worlds, without the long silences of the volatile ones.
